Edit: This has been going on since July 5th. I ordered a single page, single character commission, colored on July 4th. Due to Artist Alley rules at Anthrocon, I had to pay in advance, and I gave her my sketchbook, which she said would be done the next day. Since then, there have been long times without communication, and the most recent contact is below.
So, as of the moment, this issue is still not resolved. My last return of contact from the seller was September 4th, the results being:
"Hey Chester I wanna first apologize to you. My excuse for not mailing you your book or responding to your notes is honestly I took way more commissions than I could handle. Again sorry. It was not my intention to screw you over. See I took a bunch of commissions right before AC, some during AC, then still I had a couple people contact me after AC about commissions. The smart thing to do would have been to turn people away, but I still took them anyway. So that being said you can imagine I have alot of notes in my inbox to go over. PLUS also I've had a bunch of people noting me too about when their commission was going to get mailed out. That's why your notes prob got overlooked.
Well like I said I don't wanna screw anyone over. So I'll do whatever it takes to make this right. Just verify that your address is correct and I'll mail your book to you"
I responded confirming my address-And have heard nothing since. As Far as I can tell, she has been on since then, but has done no submissions. Any ideas?

Edit. Insulting a persons typing is just as un cool and rude as someone who doesn't try. I don't type well, I'm sorry I have a learning disability that makes editing my own work atrocious at best. I don't bring it up too much because I find people can be very prejudicial and unnecessarily nasty. But this isn't the place to discuss the complexity of types of intelligence and perception. I'm sorry I ruffled so many english professors. So bear with me please.
I've debated posting here for some time. It's easy to Get labeled whiny or demanding or misunderstood. This is a very touchy subject for many.
For time line and details. ( takes a deep breath Probably too long didn't read. )
First commission was bought At MFF 06. Which I think was still held in November. Colored single character simple background. Nothing too fancy. To be honest I can't even remember the pose ideas Or the medium for coloring. Paid upfront. 35 USD
Second was bought at AC 06 the Person who was still a friend at the time was suffering some fiscal issues and low sales, feeling sorry I said Well okay you still gotta do my color work but sure. Just draw me up a single character inked. For approx 25 USD.
I say the total is 80 bucks because of the USD to Canadian Dollar exchange rates are close.
At one point I think they gave a few refunds but I was not contacted. And at the time of the refunds had a deadline. I did not find out until it was too late. Reading how the person was in financial woe. I felt sorry for them. So I did not make much a fuss then. I mean hard times happen to everyone. I then simply said. If it takes you a few months up to year to do It I'm okay as long as you do it.
One other Time I was put on the " List" But with no indication how long this list was or a time line.
Over the years I've sent notes and once asked them at a con if they would do it. I got a beat around the bush reply. I usually waste little time telling people how I feel. But when it comes to furry art I've learned the moment you call out a popular artist for owed artwork. Or disrupt a popular furs good name in ANY WAY You get smashed down hard by them and their fans. It can make things difficult for you. Buying and selling art seems simple. But given how popular this group is it's a complex issue. Subject to interpretations and many differing opinions. I'm very patient when it comes to Commissions.
Jobs happen life happens. Naturally life does come first but where do we draw the lines? Over a year and It starts to get tiresome. Perhaps I sound impatient now, but for what I paid I think I should have been given something. And people are right. I am somewhat angry/fustrated. When I see someone offering sales and selling new commissions and completing them before my pre paid work back from 06 hasn't been done. I'd like to think my frustration is more then justified after this long a time has passed.
Another reason I'm avoiding too much discussion face to face is the person recently moved to my area. From across the country. And is currently dating one of my good friends. People are very inclined to defend their Significant other despite a wrong doing And to be honest I'd like to keep that friendship in tact. I cant just stop a social game night And go So hey X what about my commissions you've owed me? * cue awkward silence and drama*
I'm sort of looking for the right wording to say to this person. I've been tempted to out their name but I'm hoping for a more peaceful end. Thanks for the help and imput earlier.
Thank you.

So, I'm not going to name names yet because this particular commissioner has always paid in the past... but this time... :/
In mid August I was commissioned by someone who has commissioned me before. She always paid in full and reliably, and this time requested a rush order. I agreed, but because she does not use Paypal I started on the commission immediately to get it done by when we agreed rather than wait for payment to arrive (although this is literally the only case in which I've done this. I never work on a plushie at ALL unless I at least have a deposit, but she had been reliable in the past.)
I had the plushie done by the due date and emailed her a number of times, but she did not reply. Finally, by the end of the month she did, stating that she had been busy. She requested a couple changes (which would have been a piece of cake to make, but I asked for clarification on them because they were a little unclear) and she asked for my address. :/
Well, she didn't reply until the end of September. She asked if she could send half now and half later since she had to buy something for her cat's flea medication recently. She said I didn't have to send anything until it was paid in full (I wouldn't anyway) and I said that was fine and everything. Once again, she didn't respond, this time until mid October. This time stating that her dog had hip problems and she couldn't afford to pay me but would let me know when she could.
I said okay. Whatever, although getting sort of annoyed because it's been months now -- no money to show for it at all, I pushed back my normal commissions to work on hers as a rush order, etc. I emailed her again this week and I still haven't gotten a reply.
I don't know what to do at this point. :/ Like I said, she's been reliable in the past, so I don't want to get too angry or anything and she has generally been really nice but... this is getting kind of silly.
Edit: This has been resolved, thank you for all the great advice though. It's all very useful & important stuff to keep in mind in the future.

I was thinking about asking Scott Ruggels (sp?) for a commission. However, I seem to remember reading a negative review about him. Did I imagine this? Or is there something to this suspicion? I know I found his LJ somewhere. I hope I didn't find it here! But let me know if I did.
Based on the poll, we will continue to accept posts asking for advice here on Artists_Beware!
However, because I still want to keep true to the purpose of this community, there will be some conditions. They will be spelled out in the userinfo edit coming up in the next couple of weeks.
Once again I want to remind everyone we are open to suggestions for the userinfo. This isn't just editing some words, this can shape our community by providing the guidelines for posting and behavior. I don't want to dictate changes, and I'm sure there are some great ideas out there. So please, hit me with 'em!

Just posting here to let everyone know, do not accept a commission from this person! Unless you enjoy having your work re-edited, without your approval, that is.
I'm talking about the commissioner named Frisky-Lime. Dunno if he has an LJ, but that's his FA.
I live with the artist called Crys the Hybrid, and Frisky bought a commission from her. Let me make it know, he lives here, too, by the by.
Crys worked on his picture for 2 days solid, from 10am to around 8pm, and went from sketch to full color in that time. So she shows Frisky, and he says it's good to go. So she e-mails it to him, and he thanks her and goes to his room, theoretically to post it to his FA.
I go in there after a while to go to the bathroom, which is IN his bedroom, and catch a glimpse of his computer. He's been in his room for the last few hours, editing the picture Crys spent so long on.
In the end, he recolored the whole thing, redrew certain bits, and added several things that Crys never drew. And when I asked him why he did it, he said "I'm really picky about my art."
To which I wanted to reply, "Then edit YOUR OWN art!" And also, "Then why do you buy commissions?"
The latter of which was actually spoken, and he said, "Because I like getting art!"
>.< I, for one, will never accept a commission from this guy, after this crap. He literally saw NOTHING wrong with his actions. In fact, he thinks he's "improved" the picture.
Needless to say, I disagree.
So, yeah. Here's my warning: Do NOT accept a commission from this person, if you want any sort of respect for the work you put in on his art, because he will, in all likelihood (he's done this before, but not quite so drastically) immediately edit your work.

Everyone please welcome
kayla_la,
oceandezignz, and
puppetmaker40 as our new moderators! With their help, we should be able to cut back on the post and member approval time, as well as tagging our sizeable backlog of untagged posts.
I'd also like to ask everyone their opinion about advice posts. I admit I am in favor of them, because a little intervention early in a situation can prevent serious problems later on. But if you read the community info page, they don't exactly follow the original purpose of this community. So, I want to give you members a chance to decide if they should continue to be allowed, or if you want the community to go back to its roots as purely a warning community.

A friend of mine was recently commissioned by Moldred for a large pricey commission.
It was sent to him on the 24th of November through e-mail and he hasn't replied yet. A reminder was sent on the 28th and that too hasn't been replied to. It appears he was active on twitter on the 25th, so he should have at least seen the e-mail sent on the 24th. My friend is not sure what to do since the work is completed and a decent chunk of money is owed. Is Moldred a bad commissioner or does he have a history of stiffing people like this? My friend tried his AIM info as well but no luck reaching him there, and FA is down as well so of course can't get a hold of him through those means. Does anyone have any other contact information for moldred? Or maybe someone can direct his attention to this journal?

Afternoon guys :) I’ve got a query I’d like advice on as this will be the first time I’ve done anything like this.
For a bit of background, I occasionally do bits of work for the Gainsborough Heritage Association, a charity in the town near me. This has led into me getting involved (By doing the following) with a campaign for getting headstones for war graves in one of the cemeteries and as part of the research they do there in keeping a record of the stones which in turn help families to be traced.
On seeing an image I did for Remembrance Day, I’ve been asked to edit that image a tad (Just throw to in two more poppies, I’ll beefing it up by my own choice on top of this) and create an image showing the bio-diversity of the cemetery it’s self using photos my mother has taken. These’ll be used for that, the poppies for the header of their newsletter and I can’t for the life of me remember with the other, think that will depend on how it turns out.
As this is a charity I will not be paid directly but a select amount from my grandmother who works for the Heritage Association (I’m happy with it) and I know she’ll pay as she has done for whenever I’ve done work for them before albeit this is the first time it’s been art related. There is no set deadline either.
So my question is, is there anything I need to get done and sorted before I get into the meat of this little project? I’m editing the poppy image right now (Here for the curious, never tried anything like this before) and hopefully get to work on the from scratch one soon. Thanks for any help, highly appreciated! :)

I made a post concerning Jace aka Brian Harp, I made a mistake which I want to clarify, I made a rash decision and accused him on not finishing art, he might have done it in the past but come to think of it 8-9 months is not that much of a long time, I'm sure several other artists have been in the same situation
I had communication issues with Jace, I believe he can change and was promised art completion by December, if he can deliver by that date, I think he's worthy of another opportunity. I don't wish to stir up things any longer and I hope those with a grudge can forgive him like I did, from all this I learned that with communication anything can be worked out

I'm sure plenty of Furries here watch Dragoneer in some way or another, so they already got a warning about this.
This is a follow up with screen shots from the website that is selling masses of stolen porn. This isn't is not %100 furry either, even though thats what it promises.

It has to be your own stuff that you report. If you see something that you know, pass it along to the artist. I didn't see any of the screen caps till today, so I figured the people who haven't seen them their selves wouldn't mind taking a look.
The info on how to contact the site and get your art down is listed at the top of this link.
Remember, just because you don't draw fur-porn doesn't mean you shouldn't take a look. There was plenty of just human chicks from what I saw too.
I'm posting this over on Art Theft too.

Final update:
Nica got hers today. It came in undamaged.
Like mine, instead of being sent out around or on the 11th of November, it was sent out on the 24th.
In closing, this was a long time coming, and we're just happy to have our badges, but would have preferred more honesty from Exo.
Thank you, everybody, who helped out.
